August Book Club – Kicking it off!

August 20, 2012 · 2 Comments · General Topics

We’re re-starting our IST Library-Parent Book Club this week with our first session on Wednesday, 21 August. We’ll be discussing The Illuminator by Brenda Rickman Vantrease.

The Illuminator is a historical fiction novel, set in the 14th century, right in the midst of growing unrest in England against the powers of Church and State. The story follows an illuminator of manuscripts and examines the religious beliefs of a tumultuous time. Click here for a review of the book from The Book Reporter.

Participating in our book club is easy. Read the book and come to discuss it among friends. It is a friendly discussion, no judgement, no quizzes, lots of laughs. We all enjoy gaining insights into the book and getting recommendations for more good reads from our book club friends. The book club is open to all Tianjin expats who love to read.

We meet on Wednesdays, from 8:15 to 9:15. This allows parents to drop off children at their classrooms and come to the library for coffee and conversation in one of our study groups.

To register for the book club, see the online registration form on the left sidebar. That gets updated every month with our monthly book selection.

Wow! Thanks for commenting. We did indeed enjoy our discussion of your book, and at least one of our members is very excited about reading your other books from that time period. We found that, while the storylines were interesting, it was the depiction of the time that was really riveting to most of us.

We wish you well in your future writing.
