‘Year of the Dragon’
Dear Parents (Gr 3-5 Students)
Happy New Year
This year, as customary, as part of the Chinese New Year festivities IST Elementary School will be holding the Temple Fair on Friday 20th January. This will be held in the 2-5 indoor Playroom and Elementary foyer and will be an exciting event for everyone. We do hope that you can join us.
As you know a very important aspect of Chinese culture is the buying and selling of goods and this is an integral part of the Chinese New Year. Therefore to try and create a very authentic experience for the students we are going to hold a Temple Bazaar as part of the Temple Fair. This will be for Grade 3-5 students only.
Chinese goods such as handcrafts, toys, food and/or Chinese New Year items will be brought to school and the students when they bring an item will exchange this for a Temple Bazaar Voucher that will allow them to go and purchase an item from the Temple Bazaar.
Therefore, if possible, we would ask that you send a Chinese influenced item/s to school by Wednesday 18h January and have your child hand it to their Chinese teacher. (These items should cost only between 10-20RMB.) When the student brings their item to their Chinese teacher they will receive a Temple Bazaar voucher in return that will allow them to participate in the Bazaar.
Should you have any further enquiries please contact the Elementary Chinese teachers.
Yours sincerely
IST Elementary Chinese New Year Committee
