Grades 1-4 inclusively have started on their Gymnastics Unit.
The Central Idea of this unit is:
An individual’s physical capacity for movement can be explored through sequenced action using a variety of techniques and a creative process.
At this stage of the Unit, children are learning age appropriate movements that they will then join together to form a sequence.

Elementary ISAAC Soccer Tournament

November 11th, 2011 · No Comments · ISAAC Sport

Hello Everybody,
Welcome to the Elementary PE website.
On the 5th of November, 35 excited soccer players travelled to Beijing for the annual ISAAC Elementary soccer tournament held at Dulwich College, Beijing. This was a huge event with over 5O teams competing across 4 Divisions. IST fielded three teams, a Boys A team, a Boys B team and a Girls team. Whilst both boys teams played their hardest, they were up against very tough competition and failed to make the playoffs. The girls however had a very successful tournament winning their pool by goal difference and then were successful in the final with a first place win over BCIS in the final. All team members contributed to the successful day with the outstanding player of the day being Hye Won who kicked between 15 and 20 goals for the day (she lost count).
Thanks to Mr Morten for his coaching in the ASA and on the day, and Mr Taylor who has become the Super Coach of the girls division over the past four years.

A great start to the year

August 22nd, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Hello everyone.

Elementary PE has had a great start to the year with everybody working hard and having fun.  The first week was a focus on team building with the upper elementary students and revisiting rules and gym routines for the younger students.  Everyone is looking forward to the arrival of the new PE uniforms, and they should be here soon after the August 26th.  Likewise after a few slip ups in the first week, nearly all students are coming to PE with the correct footwear.  Remember crocs and sandals are dangerous in physical education classes.  Next week will see the start of asa’s and cross country training at lunchtimes for grade 3-5 students.

Welcome to Elementary PE 2011

August 11th, 2011 · No Comments · Uncategorized

August 10th 2011

Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to the start of a new year in Elementary Physical Education at IST.

My name is Mr Nathan and this will be my fifth year teaching Physical Education in our Elementary school.  I have two daughters at the school, Tilly who is starting grade 2 and Sunny who is starting grade 4. My wife Emma is an English teacher in the Secondary school.

The emphasis for Elementary PE is to promote Physical Activity as being fun, and to also develop the skills necessary to prepare our younger students for Physical Education and sport when they reach the higher grade levels.  There will also be the opportunity for Elementary students to partake in an after school activities program, and for Upper Elementary students to represent their school in interschool sporting events, both in Tianjin and Beijing. Details of which will be forthcoming.

Elementary classes are fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in Physical Education classes twice a week for NPK students up to Grade 2, and 3 times a week for Grades 3, 4 and 5.  New Physical Education uniforms will be arriving soon and your child will be required to wear on for Physical Education classes. In the interim, students may wear the old PE uniform or any other clothes that are cool and allow students to move freely.  Likewise children must come prepared with correct sports shoes in the interests of student safety.

If your child has any medical conditions that may be affected by Physical Activity, could you please let your child’s class teacher know and they can pass the information on to me.

I am excited to be working with your children again this year, and look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Kind Regards

David Nathan
