ISAAC Badminton Success

March 19th, 2013 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

On Saturday March 16th, 15 IST badminton players travelled to Dulwich College in Beijing to compete in the annual ISAAC Elementary Badminton tournament. The tournament was well organized with approximately 150 competitors taking part in Girls Doubles, Boys Doubles and mixed Doubles events. Our students played very well and represented their school with distinction, both on the court and with their behavior off the court. Notable performances were:

Benny and Jung Woo Gold Medal
Kasper and Dong Geun Gold Medal
Hye Won and Hwan Bronze Medal

And Ha Young and Hee Joon, who narrowly missed out on a medal.

The quote of the day was from Ha Young who said
“I just came here to have fun and I have made some nice new friends.”

Thanks very much to Miss Yan Liu who came with us to help on the day as well as Thomas who was particularly helpful with the Boys Doubles.

Well done all.

For those new to the IST community, China Club Football (a group of football coaches all qualified in the UK) will be starting saturday football coaching sessions at the school on March 16th. These have been run very successfully in the past and coach Ben who is the coach who travels from Beijing will be in school on Thursday to give children a free introductory session. For anyone interested in developing their football skills, or just wanting some extra exercise on a Saturday, this is a great way to start off the weekend.

Well done to all Nursery, PreK, Kindergarten and Grade 1 students for their wonderful performance and teaching of the Giant Hungry Hakka at the Specialists Assembly last Friday. It was a great performance and it seemed as though those in the audience enjoyed performing it also. I will post some photos of the assembly soon but in the meantime if you would like to enjoy this at home I have inserted the music into this post. Enjoy!13 H

Pre K through to Grade 2 are now engaging in a Perceptual Motor Skills program. This will involve rotating through a number of specific activities through which children will practice and further develop locomotor (ways of moving), body management (rolling and balancing), and object control, manipulation skills (catching, throwing, rolling.) As are many units in PE, this is a vertical unit that runs across 4 year groups. Activities and tasks are differentiated according to an individuals ability rather than age or grade. At the start of each lesson children play a chasing game. These children are playing a game called “Witches and Wizards”
